I have friends on AL, that I have known for 2 + years now, some of whom I consider very dear friends even though we never have met, and some of whom I have been fortunate enough to meet, and Al is now just something we have in common, as we are closer RL friends now, than we are ALer's.
I'm sorry you lack the social skills to make friends, in real life, or online.
But making fun of others, bc they HAVE made true friends, and you are a simple loner, makes you the loser! So crawl back into your hermit cave, and enjoy your lonely existence!

Buudha makes a point and he isnt entirely off base. In essence it isnt safe to go meet someone you met on the interent. The difference here is that some of the people have "known" each other for possibly months or years, interacting and convening in conversation through mails everyday....
In a sense that makes it somewhat safer than the average, meet your creeper in a chat room 5 minutes ago and go hang out the next day, type of situation..
thinking it is totally safe to meet someone you met on the internet is somewhat ignorant. Im not saying anyone in this game is a child molestor, but in the back of your head you have to atleast consider the person isnt all their cracked up to be....
