Its like in roman times when they tried to take germanica.Yeah they had early success but ultimately the tribes formed an alliance and said NO MORE.The war raged for 5 more years until eventually the romans,unable to afford the huge cost of the war,retreated.Over the next few decades raiding parties from both sides staged daring assaults on each others territory,nothing more than skirmishes.No-one won and no-one lost,the war just petered out.
