At mid-level I'm still happy with my axe choice, I don't get the huge crits of LBM but good consistent hits, usually a few 400+ hits per fight.

Ranged is definitely shotgun. Melee is Longblade for PvP, and Axe for Hideout. I use longblade and so does the strongest melee user in the game.
