If it's gonna be something that just gives you the probabilities at your current skill level, it would be better to get the results instantaneously. but limit the number of times you can research per day to like 2 or something. I was originally thinking along the lines of the research taking a little time (a couple days, maybe a week for the really high end crimes) but then you have the results permanently and they update as you get better and as your happiness fluctuates.
