had this indian guy call me, tells my room mate that he is from the federal gov't and that we can go to jail...
then says that somebody is hacking thru MY computer and using it too hack into FEDERAL systems and servers..
then he transfers me to his 'manager' who takes remote control of my comp and go thru a bunch of files to show me my 'corruption level'
THEN...he tells me all about this GREAT spybot company that can protect me..and WOULD NOT LET ME OFF THE PHONE UNTIL I AGREED TO BE TRANSFERRED TO AN AGENT OF THAT COMPANY...
when i told this agent that i wouldn't PAY for any services to clean up the corruption from this hacker, or order their spybot software package for 200$ a year...the agent hung up on me and disconnected remote control on my comp....

since when does the Canadian gov't help market computer software?

That is not the federal government. That is an age old scam trojan that has evolved. They infect your computer, and tell you through pop ups there are bogus security threats and other assorted issues. They have evolved now to keylog and phone numbers and other information you enter into sites to sound like they have records on you. I would call your local police department and file a report with them.

Problem is with that philosphy is that new scams need attention to get people to realize they are indeed scams. You not calling could lead to others losing their money.

at that point they were still representing themselves as a member of a federal agency....
