So you gotta train 3X as much in defense to counter 1X in offense?

That sounds logical and well balanced...

The best defense is a great offense.

Each rank in a weapon skill raises your damage, where, in turn, you need a rank in all 3 defensive skills to negate 1 attack skill.

Now, lets do some math. I've got 6 long-blade. -2 for your defensive skills. Leaves 4. Which is a higher number? 2 or 4? Still stronger after the deductions.

The more you have, the more things go back to normal for you, so keep working.

So this is correct then? That makes the defensive skills absolute useless then IMO. Why you would have to train all three skills to get one combined effect makes no sense. The combat skills you get a bonus with every rank you receive, why would the defensive skills be any different.
Wouldn't it make sense, though? You train the efficiency of how you use the weapon, meaning the swinging, the aiming, all in one package. You can wear armor, but they can aim elsewhere around it. You can learn how to bob and weave, but you might end up moving into their attacks. You can lean with the punch to reduce damage on you, but multiple hits accumulate damage.

It makes sense, but it is a ton of work. I'd suggest dimming the usefulness of the attacking skills, seeing as everyone thinks they're over-developed.
