The Ultimate Un-n00bizer Guide!!
Post: #1
Before you people start thinking that i have done all this writing, im gonna give the writing credits to a guy called Querion. He posted this thread in another RPG forum, and i just think that alot of people can benefit from this thread Wink

Enjoy!

Ok folks, you come to this game, you think you own the world collective ass and you create a kingdom only to get your butt handed on a plate to you in no time. If you want to skip the painful part of evolution from a Totaln00b to a Semin00b to a Notn00banymore, here are some simple instructions for you from a *cough* Vet, quoted from the Comprehensive Un-n00bizer Encyclopedia:

1. Never, EVER pick a posting name that contains numbers and/or starts with a small letter, period. If you are too lazy to invent something, look up this page and simply generate a name for yourself:

http://people.cornell.edu/pages/jew17/namegen.html

2. In the Guilds game, if you look for a guild to join, NEVER pick a guild that has less than 5 members and more than 20 members. Chances are that small guilds suck (that's why they are small), while you easily get lost and learn nothing in a huge guild.

3. In any guilded game, DON'T just apply to a guild! Take the 2 minutes and read through some charters, and ALWAYS contact the guild master via an introductory Email/ICQ message first! If you do this before applying, you won't be treated like a doormat!

4. Speaking of ICQ, you should DEFINITELY make an ICQ number in order to keep in touch with others or you'll never make your way out of N00bland. Guild masters hate members who cannot be contacted/reached etc. If you are playing from an university network, behind corporate firewall, etc. that doesn't let you to download and install the full ICQ package, simply go to http://go.icq.com, which contains a browser-based ICQ and doesn't need installing plus it can be accessed even under a rock.

5. If the gang you picked for yourself doesn't suit your interests, MOVE ON quickly! When you're very new to the game, you don't have ties or obligations, it's for your own interest to find a guild you like rather than to stick with a bunch of losers.

6. Make as much kingdoms as you can handle in Turmoil and experiment around with guns, melee, skills, anything! There's no better learning experience than to explore the game for yourself whilst getting your butt whooped. It's part of the game, especially in the beginning!

7. Try to join in conversations in the Awakened Lands forum, it's the easiest way to get some friends and read as much of it in the beginning as you can! There are hundreds and hundreds of players out there to make friends of. It is imerative that you are an active member of the boards from the very beginning.

8. Being an active member, DON'T be hyperactive! You'll be frowned upon if you make redundant comments in each thread! Try to be thoughtful, voice your opinion but don't push it to the limit!

Me, being a Seasoned Veteran, don't write more than 2-3 posts a day, but I always follow what goes around in the boards.

9. Don't offend others in the very beginning! You'll have plenty of time to shape a "bad guy" image later if that floats your boat. Flaming others is sometimes fun and entertaining but this business is restricted to Veterans! Smile

10. Always, ALWAYS reply to your guild master or other guild members, whatever they want from you. An inactive n00b is the worst kind of n00b.

11. Do voice your opinion, ask questions, try to learn everything when it comes to learning the game. You'll find someone in every guild that will have the strange habit of teaching n00bs, you just have to find the right person.

12. ALWAYS follow instructions and try to attend every guild meeting, if you want others to take you seriously! You'll quickly gain popularity if you're an active, responsive member, who always shows up in meetings, warchats. In fact you'll find yourself quickly unn00bed that way...

13. Don't just play the game, put a little twist into it! Awakened Lands is a role-play game, be creative! Invent a character for youself (evil drow, grumpy hiphop'er, whatever) and try to act like it. Some people even put gestures like ~smirks~, *grins* etc. in their post to make their posts more lively.

14. Try to take the time and participate in role-play threads. Role-play is like the Holy Grail of the game. No matter how much you suck at the game, if your role-play kicks ass, even the Veterans will notice.

These are just a couple of advices to un-n00b yourself and start your journey into the Vets' Hall of Fame. It's not a short trip, I tell you. It may take weeks, months until a Vet can tell the difference between you and an ant, but once it happens, it'll be an experience for life.

Now that you're through with the guide, you can go and make yourself a new name, good luck!
