black and white are NOT colours, they're the absence of and the presence of all colours respectively. In terms of pencils, shades is correct.

That's if you're talking about colored pencils or something, but with light, white is all the colors and black is the lack of color. The more you know.....

It is a colour if it's got all other colours in it stupid iv'e been doin' this in my science lessons at school. and i got top maks in my test for it cause i got every question right!!! 8) Also i got top marks on my test for light and stuff like that.
