Overall, you will resist more damage with the helmet on.

Would this make or break the deal (cause you to lose)? Yes

Wearing wrong type of helmet, what would happened? It would slow down your movement in a battle. Result in less accuracy and getting hit more often.

Yes, you have the correct helm. Matching helms and armor is idiot proof.

I don't know about the lower helmets but the B4C one more than double my resisted damage in a fight. Makes a huge difference sometimes.
