with leveling up - and activity, I would presume...
But humanity is needed only if you want to spend it on buying cyborg updates for yourself, and at your lvl it's still too early in the game for it.

Concentrate on building up yer battle stats (accuracy for ranged weapons, strength for melee) and attend some PE courses. Don't try to bust and attack yet, just do 1-3 ap point crimes till you get to lvl 5-6 at least.

no one really know but the most players use range

There's already topics on those subject but range and melee are pretty equals, just depends what stats you train more.

Humanity is for EITHER buying cyborgs implants or to refresj energy and happiness faster if you dont use it. The higher it is, the faster it will refresh.
