Heres an idea...
Take the armour, weapons and credits of anyone thats been inactive for a month and add them to the market. If the person returns within a month of the sale he/she is entitled to the money made.
This will stop custom gear being lost forever.

I'd be pretty upset if I had to take a job or do something for 3 months nowhere near a computer and lost all my cool stuff.

Then maybe borrow the idea from tribalwars and have account sitting where you give your account to someone for x time, they have a unique user and pass that the original owner can kill at anytime

the way I see it, the game's only a year old and there will be plenty more unique items coming our way in the future.
