With most of the gangs we have been in, we use the title of gang mail as a kind of informal chat screen, and put |READ| in front if there is something inside of that post that we want read. Works nicely, quick scan of gang mails, click anything that needs to be read, then just mark all gang mail read.
Works better than a chat room, though I always figured IRC would be a great way to set up gang chat.
