how do i add people to the Friends list on the top right, next to private messages?

i cant seem to find this anywhere?

click on one's name, then Send private message...then search for Friends/Enemies list on the left side of the screnn...

i figured it was somewhere right in front of my eyes.

easier. go to preferences
i just find it. i was looking for a My Profile link or something like that
